History of Martin Luther King Day:

Martin Luther King is a legendary figure. He was the leader in the movement meant to end racial discrimination and segregation in the United States. “I Have A Dream” speech was his most famous address. The trade unions then led this campaign for making the birthday of Dr King a federal holiday. The musician Stevie Wonder also supported this campaign with his single “Happy Birthday.” Later on, a petition was signed by almost six million people. In 1983, it became law. Martin Luther King Day was observed for the very first time in 1986, but the complete observance by all the states began somewhat around 2000. This day designated the status of a legal holiday in 1990.
